Could We Just Stop: Remembering in Peace

Tomorrow marks the 15th anniversary of the tragic events that occurred on September 11,2001.  It is a day that changed how we live.  We went from feelings of "safety" to wondering when the next terror attack was going to take place.  We now have a a Terror Alert system, second guess holding any large public event, have been involved in two different wars (one of which we are still involved in) and began living in a sort of "paranoid" bubble.  Though many people will say the world has gone back to normal but research has shown that we, in fact, are no where near what we called "normal" 15 years ago.

There is little doubt that September 11, 2001 had a profound impact on our lives and the future of our nation.  Today however, the tragedy of that day has become political fodder and fuel for a never ending battle between conservatives and liberals.  On the one hand we have those who believe that all Muslims who live in the United States or wish to end the U.S., have identification numbers placed on "them".  On the other hand we have those who think we should coddle Muslims and change how we display our patriotism to avoid "offending" them. Then there are the political campaigns of today.  Clinton v. Trump in the battle for who can be the "less of two evils" in the White House.  This battle of course include 9/11 memes about which candidate supports terrorism.  The newest one I saw today said that the same people who are responsible for 9/11/2001 are the same people who pay 20% of Mrs. Clinton's campaign funds (which by the way is not true).  Please let me perfectly clear,  I do not support either candidate and this post is in no way intended to sway anyone on who they vote for.

With my obligatory disclaimer stated above, I want to move on to what this post is really about.  It is about asking people to stop and think about the way in which we treat quite possibly the worst day in American history.  Could we just for a moment stop using the memory of this day to "expose" the evils of Clinton and Trump (or any other politician), to sell products, or make points in the Conservative vs. Liberal wars.

I am not just asking this because tomorrow is the 15th anniversary of that horrific day, though we do view that as a type of milestone.  I believe it should be that way every year! I believe that 9/11 should never be used to arm ourselves for political wars.  For just that one day can we just stop to remember the lives lost, the families left to mourn their passing, and the brave men and women who have died since then trying to prevent future attacks.  Stop to think about those men and women who continue to bravely serve, both on the front lines and on American soil.  Think about the military families that wait at home for the return of their loved ones.  Take time to pray about all this and praise God that there are those who diligently work to protect us from future horrors. Spend time with those you love and tell them you love them.  If you know someone who lost a loved one on that day, spend time with them, let them cry on your shoulder, let them know that their loved ones have not been forgotten.
